SOMA Conservatory

The SOMA Conservatory provides structured and technical dance training for students ages 7–18. This program is designed for dedicated dancers looking to develop their skills in a professional and educational setting. Each semester follows a carefully crafted syllabus, ensuring that students progress through leveled training in ballet, modern, jazz, and contemporary dance.

Commitment & Structure: Students enroll in semester-long training, where their growth is assessed through structured instruction.

Performance Opportunities: At the end of each semester, dancers showcase their progress in a formal performance, demonstrating their technique, artistry, and hard work.

Comprehensive Training: We emphasize technical proficiency, artistic expression, and performance experience, preparing students for future opportunities in dance.

  • For young dancers seeking a strong foundation in traditional ballet technique, this class emphasizes discipline, musicality, and technical growth. Students will build their skills through structured barre work, center exercises, and across-the-floor combinations. With thoughtful guidance, dancers develop strength, alignment, and artistry in a nurturing yet focused environment. Ideal for those interested in progressing in classical dance.

  • This class introduces dancers to the foundational principles of modern dance, inspired by pioneers like Graham, Horton, and Limón. Students will explore floor work, centering, breath, traveling phrases, and improvisation in a creative yet structured space. Emphasis is placed on expression, grounded movement, and developing a deep connection to the body. Perfect for those ready to dive into the art of contemporary storytelling through dance.

  • Rooted in rhythm, expression, and musicality, this class introduces students to the vibrant traditions of American jazz dance. Dancers will explore foundational techniques, classic styles, and iconic movements influenced by legends like Jack Cole, Bob Fosse, and Luigi. Classes focus on clean lines, dynamic isolations, rhythm work, and expressive performance—all set to energizing music from past and present. Students will build coordination, confidence, and stage presence while connecting to the cultural history of jazz.

  • High-energy and full of personality, Hip Hop 1 & 2 introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of hip hop technique, groove, and freestyle movement. Set to age-appropriate, upbeat music, this class explores rhythm, coordination, footwork, and expressive movement in a fun and supportive environment. Students will gain confidence, musicality, and a strong sense of self-expression while learning the foundations of this dynamic street dance style. Perfect for kids who love to move, explore, and bring their own flavor to the dance floor.

  • SOMA Dance Company is an audition-based performance group for dedicated dancers seeking deeper exploration in technique, creativity, and choreography. Open to dancers ages 7–18 who are enrolled in a minimum of three technique classes per week, Company members meet every Friday for repertory and dance-making. The program includes opportunities to work with guest artists, attend specialty workshops, and perform throughout the year. Through focused mentorship and community, dancers will grow in artistry, stage presence, and collaborative creation.
This is a year-long commitment following the fall and spring semesters, with breaks aligned to the Conservatory calendar (including Thanksgiving and a two-week Winter Holiday break).
